Based in West Gosford, NSW, Keane Ceramics continues to be one of the country’s largest manufacturers, distributors and online retailers of clay for commercial ceramics studios, professional potters, artists and hobbyists alike. Keane Ceramics is a heritage family brand passed through 2 generations of clay manufacturers and potters, established by Roger and Margaret Keane in 1977. Now Keane Ceramics is produced and directed by brother and sister team Babette and Giles Keane who inherited the family love and tradition in 1999. Roger and Margaret established the Keane clay name in 1973 by opening their studio where Roger created one-off sculptural pieces while Margaret was prolific in producing domestic-ware for galleries. Both were focused on education running classes in their studio. Their partnering soon becomes the perfect balance of formulation and validation as Roger experimented with blending clay bodies while Margaret tested each clay in-house. Some of these formulas are still in production today and have become the renowned benchmark of Keane clays around the world. Now in the clay-clad hands of the next generation, daughter Babette has taken the Keane Ceramic brand and blends around the globe by offering the teams unique skills to a new age in pottery and clay manufacturing. Keane’s continues to blend heritage formulas and explore new variations of bodies using local and imported ingredients. An explosive interest in the industry has fueled growth for the online retail operations to encompass not only Keane’s well-loved clays but other quality names in ceramics supplies and accessories, importing tools, glazes and finishes from around the world.
